Description:

Charles X took the throne after his older brother Louis XVIII died in 1824. Charles strongly believed in absolutism and suspended the legislature, limited voting rights, and restricted press in 1830. In Paris people put up barricades in narrow streets using them to hide behind to attack soldiers. The rebels soon controlled the streets of Paris and Charles X fled to England and radicals set up a Republic Liberals on the other hand wanted a monarchy and The Chamber of Disputes chose Louis Philippe as king. He had supported the Revolution of 1789, and was the cousin of Charles X.
