apr 5, 1944 - Music as an Escape
Description:
From the diary of Helga Pollak:
"Wednesday, 5 April 1944
Today I attended a Beethoven concerto...Taussig played the violin and Professor Kaff played the piano. Afterwards there was only piano. Kaff played the piece by heart. He lived in the music. For me it was just like a fairy tale. (...)
The music is over. Everybody gets up. I don't want to leave. Why am I in Teresienstadt? Just now everything was so beautiful - and now Im back in this dark, grey Teresienstadt. I would love to slip inside the piano. There is music inside. And here outside, there is the prison."
