mar 2, 1861 - Morrill Tarrif Act

Description:

Superseded the low tariff of 1857. Increased the existing duties by 5 to 10 percent. These rates were pushed upward by the necessities of war and were designed to raise additional revenue and partly to provide more protection for the prosperous manufacturers who were being plucked by the new internal taxes. This helped new factories flourish and come out successful from the war and somehow bring the nation more prosperity at the end of the war.
