Co-stars Johnny Depp and Kaya Scodelario have recently made their way to Hamilton Island to shoot scenes for the next installment of Pirates Of The Caribbean.
And on Saturday, filming for Dead Men Tell No Tales began at the idyllic location, with Javier Bardem getting into character - and a full face of special effects make-up - to kick off proceedings.
The 46-year-old actor, who plays the villainous Captain Salazar in the upcoming film, enjoyed the sun on a boat while chatting to fellow actors in face paint, thought to be members of his ghostly pirate crew.
The film is set to be released in 2017 and filming has taken place in Queensland since early this year.
It has just this week moved to Hamilton Island.
Javier was joined on the boat by herds of people, presumably crew members, who carried bags and items on board.
It remains unclear if lead actor and Hollywood heavyweight Johnny Depp, 52, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow in the franchise, joined Javier on the day.
A man dressed up in Johnny's iconic pirate costume was spotted on the boat, although it is unclear if he was a stunt double or the man himself.
