After opening the school, children living on the land of the Kehiwen reserve were enrolled, being probably the first school to be built on the Kehiwen's land, Dion's school probably had no shortage of enrollers. Dion started actually teaching in Spring 1916, but after a few years, he quit out of frustration because of the lack of provisions and supplies provided by the federal government, it made it difficult to for the school to give the students quality education.
