sep 1, 1869 - Liebeslieder
Description:
Love songs by Brahms, for piano duet and vocal quartet singing words translated from Eastern European folk texts. Among the popular home pieces he wrote that boosted his fame and finances. Its success led to another set in 1875. Like his eighteenth century predecessors, Brahms was trying for a broad social reach, writing both many serious works for teh concert hall, the new Temple of Art, and popular works for domestic music making. Brahms genuinely loved much of the popular music of his time, especially that of Johann Strauss Jr., Vienna's "Waltz King".
