may 8, 1939 - The Treaty of Turin (1939)

Description:

In the halls of the palace in Turin, British, French and Yugoslav politicians arrived in a golden and white room where members of the Italian government were sitting. In the same room, there were members of the press. They were writing notes and taking photos of the event.

The signee for Italy will be Mussolini, while the signees for the Allies are Kingsley Wood (for the UK), Paul Baudoin (for France) and Aleksandar Cincar-Marković (for Yugoslavia).
The signing took 16 minutes and, within those 16 minutes, was filled with bitterness and glory.

Terms for the TREATY OF TURIN of 1939 go as follow;

1) The Kingdom of Yugoslavia must cede the territories of Lower Carniola, Metohija, North Dalmatia, the cities of Kotor and Sibenik, and the islands of Šolta, Vis, Korčula, Lastovo, Mljet, Krk and Rab to the Kingdom of Italy.
2) The French Republic must cede the border territories of Little St. Bernard Pass, Mont Cenis Plateau, Mont Thabor, Chaberton and Nice to the Kingdom of Italy.
3) The French Republic must cede the department of Corsica to the Kingdom of Italy.
4) The French Republic must cede their colonies of Tunisia, the Aouzou Strip and French Somaliland to the Kingdom of Italy.
5) The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland must cede the British Somaliland Protectorate and the border territories of the Mandera county and the town of Moyale in the North-Eastern District of the British Colony and Protectorate of Kenya to the Kingdom of Italy.
6) The Kingdom of Yugoslavia shall release Montenegro as an Italian puppet state, with a Montenegrin Monarch from the House of Petrovi-Njego as the king.
7) The French Republic, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the United Kingdom will recognise the Italian occupations of the Kingdom of Albania and the Abyssinian Empire.
8) The Kingdom of Italy will pay $125,000,000 (USD) to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for war reparations.
9) The Kingdom of Italy will pay $5,000,000 (USD) to the French Republic for war reparations.
10) The Kingdom of Italy will guarantee the independence of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia for ten years.
11) The French Republic will hand the Bretagne-class battleship, Lorraine, over to the Kingdom of Italy.

After the Treaty of Turin, all conflict in Europe and North Africa finally ended.

The treaty made Mussolini feel great. He believes this is the first step forward for a great and respected empire.
But not everyone enjoyed the treaty. Yugoslavia is in despair as France is grieving over its losses. She was once the traditional and undisputed land power of Europe, and now she is nothing but a joke of an empire.

The UK lost little to nothing in the treaty, but they were met with discontent from the public.
