oct 1, 1990 - Tutsis Invade Rwanda
Description:
On October 1, 1990, the Rwandan Patriotic Front invaded Rwanda from Uganda. The rebel group was mainly comprised of Tutsi refugees, who aimed to retake their power in Rwanda. This sparked a war that increased distrust and hatred between the two groups to an all time high. The Hutu government began a country wide search for secret rebels, during which hundreds of Tutsis were arrested and killed.
A ceasefire was ordered in 1992, leading to a signed agreement between the two groups in August of 1993. The agreement planned for a new transitional government that would include members of the Tutsi rebel group. This created an even stronger resentment among Hutu extremists, setting the stage for the Rwandan Genocide.
