The March of Versailles: was one of the first events of the French Revolution. The March began on the morning of October 5th when women where rioting in the Paris marketplace over the high price and scarcity of bread.The riot grew into a mob of thousands. The mob raided city armories,stealing weapons and then marched to the Palace of Versailles. As the crowd invaded the Palace, the successfully pressed King Louis XVI. The next day, the crowd pressured King Louis XVI into moving back to Paris with he royal family. This event signified the end of the kings independence and the change of power in France. This event symbolized a new balance of power that displaced the privileges of the French nobility and clergy.
The March of Versailles caused French Nationalism to change as the people began to overtake the monarchy and governaent of France. French Nationalism started to focus on the citizens becoming the government instead of the monarchy.
