Nationalism Impact: 3
The Coronation of Louis XIV: on June 7,1654, Louis was crowned in Reims and was only 15 years old. Cardinal Mazarin was a chief minister (prime minister) who held power during his youth. The coronation of French kings was a great religious significance. Louis XIV began his independent rule in 1661, after Cardinal Mazarin's death, at the age of 22. King Louis XIV is known as the Sunk King and for having an absolutist monarch during his reign.
This event affected French Nationalism as the country began to be ruled by an absolutist monarch who wanted all the power to himself. Becuase of this French Nationalism changed and became focused around the concept of power before country.
