Roman numerals above arch ways to show where leading ; was much like we use in modern stadiums. People have tickets and assigned seat. Seats were assigned according to status. Most important close to arena and women towards top.
Column styles changed at each level of the colosseum. The first column was the Doric columns or the simples ones, the ionic columns had a decorated top and were on the second floor, the Corinthian columns were very decorated and were on the third floor. The Corinthian pilasters were at the top and were kinda blended into the wall. Exterior of Colosseum was made of travertine and the inside of concrete. Romans were first to use concrete This gave them the ability to create a building of this size.
Development of concrete is crucial:
Specialized workers are needed to work with concrete as they would with marble or travertine.
Less expensive
It can be molded into the space you want.
Greeks worked within their landscape Romans were able to shape the building and alter the landscape.
