jul 18, 1917 - Espionage Act passed

Description:

This act made it illegal to talk about the government. If caught doing so you would go to jail based on these actions. This was a way of reminding the public that they had a war to fight for. Also, many newspapers used yellow journalism to write their stories which would exaggerate the stories.
