jul 21, 1861 - July 21, 1861 First Battle of Bull Run

Description:

Bull Run, also called First Manassas, made the North and the South recognize that the war was going to be a lot longer than both sides anticipated. About 35,000 Union troops marched from Washington D.C. to strike a Confederate force of 20,000. However, the rebels were able to break the Union right flank, sending the Union troops into retreat. The Union commander was Irvin McDowell and the Confederate commander was P.G.T. Beauregard. It was a Confederate victory.
