sep 14, 1953 - Nikita Khrushchev
Description:
Joseph Stalin's successor as dictator of the Soviet Union. Khrushchev was anti-religious, anti-Stalin, and pro-missile. He strongly supported the Soviet Space Program, and lead the Soviet Union during the launch of Sputnik 1. Although he did also make many peaceful treaties with Western leaders, he did put missiles 90 miles away from the United States, creating the tense Cuban Missile Crisis.
