dec 4, 1977 - Bokassa is “Emperor”

Description:

Jean-Bédel Bokassa rose to power as a military leader in French controlled Africa in the 1940s and 50s. In 1960, the Central African Republic became independent from France, controlled as a regular republic. Starting in 1966, however, Bokassa was the new military leader/“President”. After this, he still wanted power. Exactly one year after he proclaimed himself emperor of the Central African Empire, Bokassa was crowned. He reigned with terror and an iron fist. However, a bloodless revolt in 1979 placed the president before Bokassa in power again.
