The foundation of the FTC is important because this “watchdog” agency was given the power to investigate possible violations of regulatory statutes, to require periodic reports from corporations, and to put an end to a number of unfair business practices. Under Wilson, the FTC administered almost 400 cease-and-desist orders to companies engaged in illegal activity. Tighter regulations on corporations and more focus on the needs of the common people allowed for a better life in the cities and for workers, influencing the Great Migration.
