Oldest: African Methodist Episcopal (Richard Allen).
Then AME Zion founded in New York due to racism.
Christian Methodist Episcopal formed in South.
1895: National Baptist Convention USA.
1915: Split from NBC USA.
Another split, from NBC USA, progressive Baptists (Deeply connected to Civil Rights Movement).
Also one Pentecostal.
Churches committed to:
Missions, education/literacy, center of worship and African culture.
Baptist churches: Emphasis on revivals, condemnation of slavery.
