4h 28min, jan 16, 1992 y - Peace Accords signed by US in El Salvador
Description:
This meant that the FMLN became an official party. The US willingness to engage in negotiations in the early 1990s was directly related to the ending of the Cold War. After the events of 1989, Soviet attempts at global domination seemed less likely, and the USA was willing to disengage from the anti-Communist stance it had adopted - especially in Latin America, where it had been fearful of Communism expansion after Fidel Castro rose to power in 1959. US relaxation and UN oversight of elections in 1994 put El Salvador on a path to democary.
