apr 10, 2019 - First photo of a black hole

Description:

The first actual photo of a black hole was taken with an array of radio telescopes called the Event Horizon Telescope. These 8 radio telescopes were located across the globe but acted as one large telescope. This black hole is 6.5 billion times the mass of our solar system's Sun. This black hole is over 50 million light years away. Located at the center of galaxy Messier 87. The original photo was a large landscape taken in April of 2017, but it took scientists two years to decipher the final image. This was a huge accomplishment for the EHT team and scientists world-wide with the first official photo of a supermassive black hole.
