14h 41min, may 6, 1882 y - Chinese Exclusion Act

Description:

This law was the first significant law to put restrictions on immigration. Signed by President Chester A. Arthur in 1882, it put a 10 year halt to Chinese immigration and put restrictions on those who were already living in America. The law was extended for another 10 years through the Geary Act. In 1902, it became a permanent law that was eventually repealed in 1943- however, there were still limits on the number of Chinese entering the country, and this wasn’t eliminated until the Immigration Act of 1965.
