jan 1, 1620 - Plymouth Colony is founded 1620
Description:
The Plymouth Colony was founded by a group of pilgrims known as Separatists. These settlers had beliefs similar to that of Puritans, but believed that their religion should be completely separated from the English state church. They originally fled from England to Holland, but were afraid Dutch influence would rid them of their English culture, so they decided to move to America. They struck a deal with the Virginia Company to move to the Virginia Colony, but ended up on the coast of New England.
