jan 1, 1620 - Mayflower Lands and the Mayflower Compact is Created 1620
Description:
The Mayflower Compact is signed on board the Mayflower, which was the ship carrying the pilgrims to the future Plymouth Colony. It was signed by 41 male members of the 101 passengers aboard and was a legally-binding contract for a form of self-government for a temporary time until they could obtain a legal charter from England because they landed outside the boundaries of Virginia, where they were going to reside under the Virginia Company. This is significant because it was the first written framework of government established in the future United States.
