aug 24, 1996 - Quake 2 Engine, Valve, and Team Fortress
Description:
The opening of the Quake 2 engine has led to many great mods, represented by the first game to combine skill-based gameplay with fps, Team Fortress.
There are nine types of soldiers in the game, including flamers that spew fire and oil, medics with healing abilities, engineers that deploy turrets and teleportation points, and even spies that can replicate the appearance of other characters.
The mod, based on the Quake engine, was released just two months after quake's release and quickly received wide acclaim in the Quake player community.
It was so popular that the mod's production team was later taken under the wing of one of the industry's biggest players, who is Gabe Newell, the founder of Valve, to develop Team Fortress 2.
