oct 29, 1929 - Stock Market Crash

Description:

During the 1920s, the US stock market prospered, until 1929, when it reached its peak. Production decline and unemployment rates had risen, leaving stocks in great excess of their real value. Many people bought their shares of stock on credit, which resulted in large bank loans that could not be liquidated. On October 29, 1929, Black Tuesday hit Wall Street where investors traded 16 million shares on the NY Stock Exchange. Millions upon billions of dollars were lost, which caused America and the rest of the industrialized world to collapse causing the Great Depression.
