Description:
General Robert E. Lee goal was to rally the remanants of his troubled troops, meet Confederate reinforcements in North Carolina and resume fighting. However, the resulting Battle of Appomattox Court House, effectively brought the Civil War to an end. Near the town of Appomattox Court House, Virginia, Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant.
