jun 22, 1996 - The QUAKE in Game Industry
Description:
In 1996, another masterpiece of ID software, Quake, which was regarded as the cornerstone of fps, was born.
Quake is the first fps game that uses the mouse and keyboard to work together.
More importantly, Quake is the first 3d FPS game in the world to fully render in real-time.
ID's own Quake2 engine is also the first engine to fully support polygon model animation and particle effects.
As an unabashed advocate of open source software, Carmack chose to share the engine of Quake as a way to move the industry forward.
