feb 1, 1991 - The Birth of Legend: ID Software

Description:

Back in 1990, A software company called Softdisk approached John Carmack (P1, right), who was a sophomore in college, to join the company and develop game software together. Out of his love for game software, he agreed to the offer without hesitation.

After some consideration, he chose IBM PC as the earliest game running platform, and the game software was Super Mario Bros. 3, which was popular in the world by Nintendo. After experimenting, he developed a PC display technology called EGA (Enhanced Graphics Adapter, the prototype of 3D graphics acceleration card), which is a 16-color display mode. Later, he devised screen refresh technology to increase the speed of game graphics displays. Soon after, the first 2D game for IBM PC was successfully launched, which was a historic step for game software.

Carmack's technical prowess had already begun to emerge, and a legend was destined to begin.

A year later, he decided to start his own business and founded ID Software Games with John Romero (P1, left). At ID Software, Carmack and his colleagues created and revolutionized the category with one bloody and violent title after another.

The ambitious Carmack certainly didn't stop at 2D games that anyone could design, he set his sights on the development of 3D games. If it was a few years ago, his "3D plan" may be difficult to achieve, but at that time the computer hardware technology has developed to a considerable level - high-resolution monitors, large hard disk and memory, high-speed computing CPU, and graphics accelerator cards, etc., these are the perfect basis for his dream.
