Amber Heard has posted a carefree and confident snap on Instagram after ex-husband Johnny Depp failed to get her barred from next week's libel showdown.

The actress, 34, showed herself wearing a relaxed floral dress as she reclined on a picnic rug with a book, making the most of the sunny weather.

She uploaded the picture with the caption: 'Winding down into the weekend.'

It is unclear where the image was taken, but it is thought to have been in London ahead of the three-week High Court trial due to begin in the capital on Tuesday.

Depp, 57, had tried to block Ms Heard from giving evidence in his libel action against The Sun newspaper and its executive editor Dan Wooton over allegations he was violent towards her.

The paper published an article in 2018 referring to Depp as a 'wife beater', which he strenuously denies.

In the latest pre-hearing spat, Depp's legal team on Friday tried to exclude Heard from attending court until she was called by The Sun's publisher, News Group Newspapers (NGN) as a witness - meaning she would be prevented from watching her ex-husband give evidence.
