feb 2, 1848 - End of Mexican-American War
Description:
After American troops were fired upon between the Rio Grande and the Nueces river, the United States declared war on newly-independent Mexico. This war lasted from April 25, 1846 to February 2, 1848. The Mexican-American war was highly controversial. When the American troops were fired upon, they were below the traditional Mexican border. Many thought that the Americans were looking to expand their territorial claim and introduce states where slavery could be legal.
