Description:

Plessy c. Ferguson is a judgment of the United States Supreme Court issued on May 18, 1896. It is sometimes cited simply as Plessy.

It allows states that so wish to impose racially segregated measures by law, provided that the conditions offered to the various "racial" groups by this segregation are equal. The doctrine that stems from the judgment is called "separate but equal".
