aug 16, 1944 - Soviet Forces Entered Treblinka, August 16, 1944
Description:
Treblinka was a concentration camp located in Poland, established by the SS and police authorities in November of 1941. Before Treblinka could be liberated by Allied forces, the camp was liquidated in 1943 by the Germans in order to destroy any evidence of death camp activity. At this time, most of the Jewish people in Poland had already been murdered. The killing center associated with Treblinka was overrun by the Soviets in late 1945. The dismantlement of Treblinka preceded any formal liberations.
