Is a tomb made by a ruler of the Mughal dynasty because his favorite wife died. Uses symmetry and originally would have shops along the sides. The garden of Taj Mahal included rivers and waterfalls. Made of white marble and it was flanked by red sandstone buildings. The white stood for priestly pure things and the red sandstone represented the warrior class. The architect of the Taj Mahal was Ustad Ahmad Lahori. The Taj Mahal was made to be a paradise on Earth. The Taj Mahal contained a water channel in the front along with a very large garden along all sides. Lahori made sure that the Taj Mahal was made on a platform so that everyone would be able to see it from all directions. The emperor died as a prisoner. The floorplan is significant because it represents the hasht bihisht or the eight levels or paradise. The center of the main chamber holds the cenotaph which is where the emperor and empress’ coffin resides. Made out of stone masonry, marble, and precious/semiprecious stones.
