jan 1, 1792 BC - King Hammurabi
Description:
Hammurabi’s combined political and military power helped him carry out irrigation projects and construct temples and fortifications. He was also known for his code or collection of 282 laws. The laws, also known as Code of Hammurabi, were written on clay tablets and tall pillars of stones called steles. The code is considered as the first written law in history. The edicts were concerned about economics (wages, rentals, tariffs, and trades), criminal law (theft and assault), civil law (debt and slavery), and family law (marriage, divorce, and adoption).
