Operation torch- This was the plan for invasion of northern Africa.The US and Britain (Churchill) This was to start the operations in Europe and create another front in the war, giving some relief to the Soviet Union.FDR thought that this invasion would rule out one in Europe but supported Churchill anyways.The invasion started with moving into Algeria. The thoughts behind this plan where to get the “soft underbelly” of the beast, so after the smaller territories in Africa, they planned to invade Sicily (underbelly of Europe) This resulted in the Germans retreating in Italy which was important for WW2 because the relationship between Italy and Germany would only face less communication and fall apart.
