The Battle of the Coral Sea in North Australia took place with the Japanese and the United States. Japanese main goals going into the battle was to cut of shipping lanes with the US and Australia and then lead into an invasion of Australia. This was the first battle that was a naval battle, fought in the air over the sea. The US win the battle forcing Japan to retreat. In the war, showing smart and effective defense can show opponents that they are strong and not to be reckoned with. Japan now knows that the US is serious about the war and that they are protecting all their allies.
