11h 12min, may 10, 1940 y - Germany's invasion of France- may 10th 1940

Description:

The Atlantic was crucial for the shipment of supplies, weapons and food across to any important country. Both the allies and axis were aware of the importance of controlling the Atlantic, which lead to the Battle of the Atlantic. The main goal for the allies were to resupply great Britain and the axis goal was to stop this from happening. The Germans used submarines called u-boats to sneak up on German ships. The allies used the creation of radar to make remarkable advancements in the war. The battle lasted for 5 years, from September 3rd 1939 to May 8th 1945. This was important to WW2 because if anything went differently in this battle and the Axis got full control of the Atlantic and the war would have been short lived. The supplies for the US and Britain would be limited which could affect their overall performance.
