sep 3, 1939 - Battle of the Atlantic- september 3rd 1939

Description:

May 1940- After capturing Poland, Germany was confident in their military and navy, resulting in their next pursuit. France will be Hitler’s next target and he was eager to go on the offensive again. His first plan was to invade from the west, but was later compromised when the written plan went down in a plane crash, compromising the whole thing. His revised plan had him going a more efficient route, surpassed the Maginot Line by going around the country and in through the North. The attack began with air raids on Belgium and Holland and sooner than the French knew it the Germans were on their way around the wall that they called the Maginot. The Germans were attacking on multiple sides, giving the French limited options. Overthrowing France was everything Hitler wanted and he symbolically made him sign the document of capitulation in the same railway carriage used when Germany surrender to France. This was an important part of the war because the Soviet Union had the choice to be allied with the allies, but he chose the axis. Now that he chose that Germany receives control of Poland and he receives nothing. The significance of this is that it is clear in this event that Germany has more self interest than interest to be an effective ally.
