ok so the trio have each been forging an artifact in the name of their mom's whole 'avenge me' command
markos created the crown (which is funny bc it's the crown of marcus) which bestows upon the wearer all the knowledge in the world so that he may be wiser (and just generally smarter) than all his enemies
iain created the scepter, which grants you control over everyone else, so u basically command their body
aden created the orb and told no one what it could do, and he never used it and hid it somewhere no one could find (i think it has the power over life and death, but i haven't made up my mind yet)
anyways, maiv knew she wouldn't be able to kill them properly since they have no real body
she finds a bunch of witches here and there and train them and sends them out to find the trio across the world
one by one, they find them and battle it out, and after many years and many deaths, they finally manage to defeat each one of them and bind them to their respective artefacts
they'd then take the artefact and bury the trio under gravehills where they went into a deep sleep
maiv instructed for the artefacts to be hidden
the orb was given to the fae (flood survivors and probably one of them was maiv's brother or smth) deep in the heart of morwood
the scepter was taken to the small town of mau/sau (big city in the future sauvakin empire, spellings vary) and a tree was grown around it so it's in the middle of the trunk and the juice of the tree leaves are highly narcotic (maybe shade, idk). the tree is still highly sacred to the locals and is guarded day and night, even after the fall of the sauvakin empire. it's the present day location of sofos, and the drug is often used by scholars to go on all nighters
the crown was taken on a ship by one of maiv's apprentices to be taken to the land beyond the unknown sea, but the ship sunk in a storm and the crown was lost
until a fisherman's son caught it in his net and used it to start a rebellion and become king
it's marcus, who passed the crown down through his line
and then when his house eventually fell, naana cavere took the crown and gave it to her daughter, anya
when anya married robert atkinson, maiv came to her and instructed her to get rid of it, so she journeyed to her mother's homeland and went into the crypts beneath daria castle where she hid the crown in a vault and sealed the door with seven keys
she gave the keys to maiv, who gave one to each member of the mæthv, and they in turn passed them down to their apprentices when they took over
anyways, maiv knew that this wasn't over as long as none of them were truly dead
and she knew it could take a long time, so in a moment of 'wtf am i gonna do uuuuh think fast' she created a compass to lead her to each of the artefacts so she wouldn't forget
but in doing so, she tied it to the trio by proxy
so that's a big oopsie, but she spelled it so that they would only wake up when the compass was passed down to maiv's true descendant and the stalemate game began again
one of maiv's apprentices got greedy, though, and wanted to prove that she was the true descendant, so she stole the compass and ran away to find the artefacts
but she was killed by a common thief in her sleep and he took the compass and sold it and it passed between hands for thousands of years until neslin's mother bought it at a market on their island and gave it to neslin, and then the trio woke up and clawed their way of of their respective hills, drawn to their bones where they would regroup and strategize
