jan 1, 1920 - Harlem Renaissance

Description:

The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem, New York. It took place during the 1920s (lasting roughly from the 1910s through mid 1030s) and artistic forms showed the struggles but joys of being black. During the time, it was known as the "New Negro Movement", named after the 1925 anthology by Alain Locke. This period is considered a golden age. Many African Americans migrated North like W.E.B. Du Bois leading the Great Migration to which Harlem was the most popular destination for families. People like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington boomed with music: jazz!
