sep 5, 1774 - The First Continental Congress

Description:

(Term 1 Event) This was a place for colonists to share their ideas and argue against British authority. Representatives from each of the 13 colonies (except Georgia) met and helped to create a list of demands and complaints to send to the English Parliament.

1. Showed both the parliament and the colonists that there were people who wouldn't stand for the kind of repression they felt they were receiving.

2. Swayed some English leaders (including William Pitt, a British prime minister) and helped them understand the situation of the colonists.

3. Played a part in unifying the colonists and required that they took action according to their beliefs.
