19h 12min, may 28, 1830 y - Indian Removal Act

Description:

The Indian Removal Act was signed by President Andrew Jackson, authorizing the president to negotiate with southern Indian tribes for them to relocate to federal territory west of the Mississippi River in exchange for their lands. The Cherokees were forcibly moved west by the United States government. This march became known as the "Trail of Tears" (present-day Oklahoma). Approximately 4,000 Cherokees died. A few tribes went peacefully, but many resisted the relocation policy. It is significant because it led to the eviction of Natives from their lands in the Southeast.
