The Augustus of Primaporta was a piece of Roman propaganda that highlighted the military achivements of Augustus, the first emperor of Rome. Through the Cupid at the foot of his sculpture, he linked his lineage with Aeneas, thus making himself a descendant of the goddes Venus. The narrative of his breastplate portray the gods approval of him as well as his victory over the parthinian empire. The scultpure is indicative on how Imperioal Rome, unlike Republican Rome, idealized qouth and beauty.
