may 22, 1765 - Stamp Act is Passed

Description:

The Stamp Act was Parliament's first direct tax on the American colonies. The Act was passed in order to raise money for Britain. It taxed pamphlets, legal documents, newspapers, dice, playing cards, and almanacs. The stamps were placed on the packages or documents to be able to show that the tax had been paid on them. This led to colonial protests, where many colonist were angered about taxation without representation.
