British soldiers sent to assist with crowd control over a group of protesters let off shots, hoping to intimidate the protesters into submission. Instead, five people were hit and killed. The captain in charge of the soldiers was arrested and the soldiers who fired were arrested along with him. However, they were all pardoned.
