sep 27, 1940 - The Tripartite Pact

Description:

The Tripartite Pact formed an alliance between Germany, Italy, and Japan, which would be known as the Axis Powers. The Pact provided for mutual assistance should any of the signatories suffer attack by any nation not already involved in the war. It also dictated that Japan would be in control of the Eastern sphere of the world, while Germany and Italy would control the Western sphere. The pact was also a direct message to the United States, as WWII was already underway, so the pact intended to keep the US as isolationist and to reconsider any possible thoughts of joining the Allied Powers. Furthermore, the pact gave Japan the backing of German and Italian support, which gave them the confidence to declare war against the United States.
