Description:
Columbus set sail for the new world on August 3, 1492. He left Palos Spain with 3 ships named the Santa Maria, the Pinta, and the Nina. Within two months, on October 12 they claimed to see land. They thought they had landed in India but later discovered it was a whole new continent. In actuality, he probably landed in what has become known as Watling Island in the Bahamas, which he claimed for Spain.
