Description:

On September 18th 1895, Booker T. Washington delivered his famous Atlanta Compromise in which he talked about African Americans becoming economically immersed with the rest of America and promising to White Southerners that they would work to join with them to work harder. He wanted all African Americans to become proficient in agriculture, mechanics, commerce, and domestic service, and to encourage them to "dignify and glorify common labour." This became known as one of the most important speeches in the history of the United States.
