MES PREMIERES ERREURS.
Je commençai par rester un certain nombre d'années dans Terreur commune qui consiste à envisager
la Franc-Maçonnerie comme une société dont le but est réellement philosophique, humanitaire et progressiste. J'avais pourtant bien vu qu'en fait il en allait tout autrement. Mais, ainsi que je l'ai dit, je me figurais alors que les contradictions entre les actes et les principes devaient être attribuées à la mauvaise influence exercéeparlespoliticiens. C'étaient eux, pensaisje, qui après avoir envahi la Maçonnerie l'avaient fait dévier de sa vraie route, afin d'assurer un tremplin à leur ambition par l'exploitation des passions mauvaises. Les recherches auxquelles je m'étais livré dans les bibliothèques maçonniques n'avaient fait qu'enfoncer davantage cette erreur dans mon esprit. Elles m'avaient donné l'occasion de lire les discours prononcés par les francs-maçons de l'ancien temps. Or, je les voyais animés d'un souffle si chrétien ! Ils semblaient remplis d'un amour si vrai de l'Humanité !
MY FIRST MISTAKES.
I started by staying for a number of years. in Common Terror which consists in considering Freemasonry as a society whose purpose is truly philosophical, humanitarian and progressive. However, I had seen that in fact it was quite different. But, as I said, I imagined then that the contradictions between acts and principles had to be attributed to the wrong influence exercised by politicians. It was they, I thought, who after invading Masonry had caused it to deviate from its true path, in order to ensure a springboard to their ambition through the exploitation of evil passions. The research I had done in Masonic libraries had only pushed this error further into my mind. They had given me the opportunity to read the speeches given by the Freemasons of the old days. Now, I saw them animated by such a Christian breath! They seemed filled with such a true love of humanity!
