jan 1, 1070 - Great Serpent Mound
1070 CE (Indigenous Americas)
Description:
- Made in Adams Couty, Ohio
- Made by the Fort Ancient peoples of the Middle Ohio River Valley
- Made up of the geography provided in order to create earthwork/ effigy mound
- Mounds curve to form the body of the snake, which many of the Indigenous people believed was a powerful deity. The tail of the snake swirls into a circle. The Head of the snake points to the East and the tail points to the West, aligning up with the Winter and Summer Solstice and may possibly indicate they had an idea of astronomy.
