jan 1, 1793 - Rise of the Cotton Industry
Description:
During the late 1780s much of the southern agriculture was slowing down as the soil was exhausted from tobacco plants and the demand for slaves had lessened, with the decrease in sales people were doubting the future of slaves. Nevertheless british industrialization was demanding cotton and american was desperately hoping to somehow make a profit on the painstaking process of manufacturing cotton. That was until Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. With the cotton gin cotton could be cleaned at rapid rates making it insanely profitable this meant people were buying slaves left and right to begin producing as much cotton as possible.
